Due to a cancellation of the regularly-scheduled programmer, I'll be tossing around some CDs and vinyl slabs at the Royale tonight. That is all. Thank you.

In honor of the World Cup: between now and July 9, please refer all correspondence to me minus a surname and in care of "Tomasinho." Thank you.

Snagged this from Stefene's post at 52nd City's blog:Though Bastille Day is traditionally associated more with the loss of one's head (at least if you are a monarch) rather than the use of one's head, we here at 52nd City have decided to be contrary. We're throwing a Bastille Day trivia night/2nd issue release party at Mad Art Gallery (2727 12th St.) on Friday, July 14. We'll post details as we have 'em. Price is the usual - $10 a head, or $100 a table. To clarify, showing up for trivia doesn't mean you are obliged to buy a mag - and if you'd like to come down and see the new issue right off the presses, there's no obligation to play trivia.
If you do want to play trivia, we are taking table reservations right now, so email us post-haste and let us know that you'd like to come play (all proceeds, as always, go to the production of our little mag). We may not have fireworks, champagne and the Tour de France like they do in Paris, but it should be a fun time. And if you've been on the edge of your seat waiting for our second issue (themed "Faith") this will be the first place to get your hands on it.
Drop yours truly a line if you'd care to play.

Friday is the fourth Friday of the month. (Oh, where, oh, where has June gone?) As Friday is the fourth Friday of the month, I'll be spinning records at The Royale, where the fourth Fridays are now my sonic preserve. I would expect to play music between, oh, 9:54 p.m. and 1:16 a.m. No theme, per se, but I plan on sneaking in Nico's version of "Das Lied Der Deutschen" in honor of 2006 World Cup champion Germany! (That'll be a real crowd pleaser.)Perhaps I'll see you there.

Summer Writing Workshops @ the Hartford Community CafeLocal writer Thomas Crone will host five, single-session writing workshops at the Hartford Community Cafe over the next month, in two age ranges: 8-10 and 11-14. Group activities will focus on both fiction and non-fiction writing, with a pinch of poetry. Students will participate in individual and group activities, with an emphasis on writing games that they can take home for the remainder of summer. Students would only need to bring a fresh notebook, a pencil and pen, and a willingness to read their work in a group setting.
The instructor is a longtime freelance writer in the area, currently contributing to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis Magazine, Sauce Magazine, Playback, the St. Louis American and insidestl.com, among other publications and websites. He is also a frequent adjunct professor at Webster University, teaching a number of writing courses through the School of Communications at WU.
The course sessions are as follows (younger group meets first, older group second), all taking place at the Hartford Community Cafe:
Wednesday, June 28: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. - noon
Thursday, June 29: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. - noon
Monday, July 3: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. - noon
Thursday, July 6: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. - noon
Friday, July 7: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. - noon
Fees are: $8 per session, per individual student; or $35 for all five sessions.
Discounts applicable: $7 per session for multiple children from the same family and/or students from St. Francis Cabrini Academy; or $30 for all five sessions.
Please contact Thomas Crone directly @ 314-776-6929 or thomascrone@yahoo.com for details and registration (required).

So I got a late invite into a fun, young team participating in the 48 Hour Film Project. Helmed by director Carson Minow, the group fashioned a martial arts film, "Flute Master IV: Spirit of Doom," which will screen at the Tivoli on Thursday, at 7 p.m. As I'll be in class, I won't see the flick live, nor have I seen the finished product since ending my involvement at 10 p.m. last Saturday. Looking forward to endless repeats, though, on Channel 22 over the next year!(Lo! Post #100.)

One of the new trends in online journalism is having the writer ask for story leads, tips, suggestions and contacts via the web. So think of me, cap in hand, asking for the equivalent of a little bit of spare, mental, pocket change.I need:
Some gardeners. But not any gardeners. People who raise "ethnic" gardens. E.g.: a Vietnamese family growing insanely hot peppers or a German family growing kohlrabi. Heck, do you know any immigrants raising chickens? Lemme know.
Interesting bar folk. Though not shy to pass through the doors of various nightspots, I'm on the lookout for "industry interview" candidates for my Wednesday gig for InsideSTL.com.
Lastly, Saturday events. I'm doing this "Saturday Night Date" gig for the Saturday mini-"Get Out" section of the P-D. So if you're working on a public event taking place on a Saturday evening, drop a line.
Thanks, in advance, for the wealth of incoming e-mail!

Today marks my fifth-day anniversary as a contributor to InsideSTL.com. Yay, me! In that lengthy span, I've covered three locations on my nightlife beat: O.B. Clark's (li'l double-dipping on my new favorite place to watch soccer); Hammerstone's (where I queried heiress Cory Hammerstone, the first "industry interview"); and today's Rue 13 (tepid, but mostly positive). In upcoming weeks, expect a continuation of this superhuman rate of thrice-weekly columns, which, as only the most avid readers will note, replace the former, Thursday column for the Post. So, where we goin' next?

June 3? June 4? What's today? Or, in a way, tomorrow?I dunno. But I will be spinning at the Royale, 9-something to 1-something.
Tonight. Slash. Tomorrow.
